Same-sex marriages in Portugal have been legal since June 2010 and are legally recognised in the UK as 'Civil Partnerships'.
The procedure to arrange your same-sex marriage is fairly simple and we will guide you through all the documentation & legal requirements. Everything you send us (at least 7 weeks prior to your wedding) will be thoroughly checked by our office in Portugal, well ahead of your arrival in resort. We recommend your stay in Portugal to be at least one week, allowing about
three days in-resort before your wedding day to finalise all the paperwork.
By law, the ceremony must be read in Portuguese before it is translated into English. Should the registrar responsible to conduct your ceremony not speak English, we will organise for a translator to be present. The actual legal reading takes approximately 20 minutes.
As this official service does not include the 'exchange of rings' or 'personal vows', the overall duration of your ceremony can be negotiated with the registrar, to make it as personalised as you wish. |
